A summer full of conferences: our team conference to BSG in Newcastle

A large MeReL delegation attended the 53rd conference of the British Society of Gerontology, held at the University of Newcastle in early July. The theme of the conference was "New Directions in Aging and the Life Course", highlighting challenges in aging from a broad multidisciplinary perspective.

Our MeReL members also presented their work. Julie gave a presentation on the experience of bodily disconnection in nursing home residents, followed by an inspiring discussion on how best to approach the aging body in our care for residents. Laura discussed her most recent work around capturing momentary feelings and thoughts in people with dementia. Tine discussed her work on the perspectives of nursing home staff on existential suffering in their residents.

Finally, Jessie moderated a symposium on tiredness of life, in which Elisa, Judith and our colleagues from the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and the University of Liverpool tried to unravel the phenomenon of tiredness of life. This complex phenomenon was also recognized by researchers and professionals from other countries as a topic in urgent need of further understanding.
